Thunderbirds GRASSROOTS program overview
The Thunderbirds Grassroots Program provides a strong foundation for young players (U7–U12) through age-appropriate training aligned with Ontario Soccer’s Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) framework. Our goal is to nurture confident, creative, and technically sound athletes who fall in love with the game from their very first touch.

PLAYERS FIRST LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Our grassroots philosophy prioritizes enjoyment, inclusion, and skill development. Training sessions are structured to keep every player active, supported, and continuously involved—building confidence through positive, guided learning.
AGE-SPECIFIC CURRICULUM & SMALL SIDED DEVELOPMENT
Players progress through a structured pathway that includes Active Start, FUNdamentals, and Learn to Train stages.
Sessions feature small-sided games and station-based activities that maximize ball touches, decision-making, and real-game understanding.

ONTARIO SOCCER STANDARDS & 9v9 TRANSITION
We follow all Ontario Soccer grassroots standards. Beginning with the 2025–26 indoor season, U12 and U13 players will transition into the 9v9 format, supported by proper field layouts and developmental guidelines.
PLAYER PATHWAY & ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Athletes demonstrating advanced readiness—technically, physically, and socially—may be recommended for placement in higher training groups or competitive environments. Evaluations are conducted carefully to ensure safe, appropriate, and meaningful progression.

COACH EDUCATION & PROGRAM QUALITY
Our coaching staff has access to Ontario Soccer development resources, including practice plans, workshops, and certifications. This ensures consistent, high-quality training across all grassroots age groups.
